About the Role


Senior Associate Vice President for Facilities and Capital Projects

Serving as a Business and Finance leadership team member, the Senior Associate Vice President (SAVP) for Facilities and Capital Projects is responsible for all university facility operations, maintenance, planning and construction within a multi-campus environment. The SAVP also directs and manages construction projects from conception to completion and oversees real estate management. The SAVP reports to the CFO/Vice President for Business and Finance. 

The position requires a transformational, positive, forward-looking, accountable leader who can lead and collaborate in a fast-moving environment and support Pacific's goal of becoming the best student-centric comprehensive university in the country. 


Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage a team of 150 staff supporting the facilities, capital project and real estate needs of three campuses: the university's 175-acre, 2.3 million square foot main campus in Stockton; its 15-acre, 317,000 square foot campus in Sacramento; and its 358,400 square foot campus building in San Francisco. 
  • Directly oversee the facilities organizations operation on the Stockton and Sacramento Campuses that provide maintenance and repairs, custodial, landscaping, renovation and utility optimization services. Provide dotted-line oversight of the San Francisco facilities organization operations. 
  • Develop and manage facility and capital projects from conception/feasibility study to completion, including oversight of budgets, forecasts and schedules, and the selection, engagement and management of outside engineers, architects, contractors and consultants. 
  • Oversee management of real estate functions, including purchases, sales and leasing of real property. 
  • Develop clear, compelling and financially sound rationale and advocacy for operating and capital budgets and be accountable and responsible for managing those budgets. 
  • Proactively prioritize management of maintenance and capital projects and effectively deploy and mange resources in a fast-moving, high-demand environment. 
  • Lead process improvement, implementation of best practices, optimization of customer service and creation of operational efficiencies. 
  • Develop and present materials related to areas of responsibility to university leadership. 
  • Ensure compliance with governmental laws, regulations, and university standards, working with outside regulatory and governing agencies to ensure compliance with codes and regulations, and when appropriate, working with outside agencies to interpret existing or new codes and regulations that govern or impact the university. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ten (10) years of leadership experience as a facility and/or capital projects Assistant Vice President, Director, Assistant Director or similar position. Combination of experience to include organization-wide facility planning, operation and maintenance; or major construction management. 
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience overall in facilities operations and/or construction management. 
  • Demonstrated ability to evolve/continuously improve large organizations. 
  • Ability to develop and manage large capital and operating budgets and forecasts. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Accountable, collaborative, customer-focused, effective, professional and results-driven.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education experience.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience managing various construction and facilities projects, including athletic/recreation facilities, housing/dining facilities, classroom/meeting spaces, performance venues, laboratories/clinics and office spaces.
